Position Purpose:

To plan, manage, inspect, provide and maintan port mechanical and hy draulic infrastructure including but not limited to pumps, pipelines, firefighting system, high mast lights, lifting equipment, power tools and all other mechanical and hydraulic components.
To operate firefighting in g system Scada and all other mechanical related infrastructure.
To assist the port LMI and GMR2 with the examination and certification of machinery, lant and equipment jurisdiction of the Port Engineer’s Department, and to ensure compliance with safety and legal requirements as well as the maintenance, repairs and fault finding to machinery, plant and equipment to optimise availability.
The Port cannot function without a well maintained infrastructure

Position outputs:

Maintenance of Plant and eauipment in the workshop.
Assistance wit h examining of machinery, plant, equipment and lifting equipment, including cranes.
Testing and examining of sliding gates, swing gates etc, generator set plants and firefighting svstem within the Port.
Provide situation reports to technical Supervisor/Technical Manaqer.
Ensure follow up on findings.
Arrange for testing of oils.
Ensure iob cards are completed for all iobs done and documents are kept in a good order
Strip equipment for testing repair and assemble after completion.
Ensure that certification is correct
Assist examiners with issuing of stop certificates when machinery, plant and equipment do not comply and ensure that
components are not used.
Ensure that purchased equipment is compliance
Provide line management and users with advice and guidance on equipment and code of practice 29 requirements.
Make preliminarv diagnosis of equipment malfunction.
Undertake necessary repalr to machinery, plant or equipment.
Undertake necessary maintenance to plant, machinery and equipment (pressure setting, setting safetv devices, engine
servicing, changing steel or fibre ropes.
Strip, overhaul, test and re-calibrate various gauges and set safety valves hydraulics/pneumatics). ;
Load testing of high mast lighting systems and associated equipment.
Undertake fault finding. repairs and maintenance of Fire fightinq svstem and fire monitors.
Operate overhead/hiab cranes for maintenance purposes.
Advice personnel of other departments regardnig operation of plant and equipment e.g Flre Department.
Provide advice re-modification of machinery, plant and equipment to line management
Sharing of knowledge with trainees.
Prepare specification for maintenance as required.
Manaqe all mechanical and hvdraulic assets and scares.
Ensure safe workinogenvironment and infrastructure.
Update SOP’s and risk assessments.
Assist at other Engineering Depots as and when required

Qualifications & Experience:

•Qualified Millwright Certificate
•Code B drivers licence.


At least 2 years relevant experience
Experience in mechanics, hydraulics and pneumatics
